The labor union of British Airways employees has scheduled a British Airways strike to begin next week although negotiations have been ongoing. The union wants more concessions on air travel and guaranteed employment. British Airways wants to negotiate with cost cutting measures. To survive the British Airways strike, British Airways may need cash advance loans.

British Airways strike plans

Right now, the plan is for British Airways’ strike is a 20 day strike which will be split into four 5 day chunks. The British Airways strike has been announced seven days before the first planned walkout. Included in the strike is “cabin attendants” that will ground British Airways flights. The dates for the British Airways strike currently are May 18 to May 22, May 24 to May 28, May 30 to June 3, and June 5 to June 9. This walkout will snarl air traffic in Europe, adding to continuing problems with the Icelandic ash cloud.

British airway strike at issue

The latest round of negotiations that have led to the British Airways strike stem from cost-cutting measures instigated last year. British Airways strikes cost the airline about 45 million pounds last March. Free travel perks were taken away and several employees were fired because of that strike. Employees want the free travel perks to be reinstated. Additionally, the union is requesting that all employees who were fired as a result of the March strike be reinstated.

British Airways and an attempt to keep service open

Much of BA’s air service will stop because of the strike but British Airways is trying to keep services running. British Airways will be booking with other airlines to maintain services as much as possible. Every day that service stops, $ 67 million is lost. BA was originally going to be recording 800 million pounds per year. Unfortunately, staffing levels, pay freezes, and other cost cutting measures are still at issue with BA and their employee union.
